Gateway of India, Mumbai

The gateway of India, proud to be an Indian. It is opposite to Taj Hotel which is the best part of it.This is one of the landmarks in Mumbai one just have to see and just click the picture.I happened to see it from the boat as well.

History:

and now

The Gateway of India is a monument built during the British Rule in Mumbai, city of Maharastra in Western India.Dealing with the streets vendors, taxi drivers ,gets a bit annoying. But is all a part of experience. The structure is about 26 meters high and it lies at the end of Chhatrapati Shivaji Marg at the water edge in Mumbai Harbour. It can be also and it is said as the Taj Mahal of Mumbai, andthe city top tourist attraction. In earlier times ,it would be the first structure that visitors arriving from the boat way in Mumbai should have seen. The India gate is similar to the  Gate way of India in Mumbai. It is located on the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai and over looks the Arabian Sea.

The design of the Gateway was given by George Wittet in 1914 and the construction was completed in 1924.It served toallow entryand access to India. The construction costsover 21 Lakh at that time and now it's Priceless.

There have been many terror attacks. You must have been listened about 26/11.The Gateway of India was twice attacked in 2003 and again on 26/11/2008.The seen was horrible when it was live coming on T.V.

The majestic moment is a must visit at night, in its pristine glory against the backdrop of the sea.It is visited by millions of people across the world every year and is a very significant figure in the lives of the people of Mumbai, as the Gateway defines the grandeur of the city that is a culmination of both, historic and modern cultural environment. The Gateway of India is a monument that marks India's Chief ports and is major tourist attraction for visitors who arrive in India for the first time.A favvorite spots for tourists, nowadays, this monuments attracts vendors, food stalls and photographs. The ceremony first conducted on February 28,1948, when the last set of British troops and division left India, post Independence.

The structural plan of Gateway of India is designed in the Indo-Saracenic style. One can also find traces of Muslim architectural styles incoperated in the structure of the grandiose edifice. There are steps constructed behind the arch of the Gateway that leads to the Arabian Sea.The monument is structured in such a way that one can witness that large expanse of the 'Blue Blanket' right ahead, welcoming and sending of  ships and visitors.

All the religion come up to sing a song for India

The Elephant Caves are located very close to the Gateway of India, and one can see many tourists around.Tourists mostly travel on the motor boats to reach the Elephant Islands. When you enter in the Elephant Cave the first two status you will see are Maratha leader Shivaji and the second one Swami Vivekananda.

You can visit the Gate any time of the day.The best time to visit is during the period of November to March, as the post monsoon climate is very pleasent and there are very less chances for downpoures at this time.

                                                                     Salute

Gateway of India is 2.5 km away from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminals and 2.4 km from Churchgate.
