Malshej Ghats, Pune

Malshej ghat is situated in Pune district near the borders of Thane and Ahmednagar districts. It is at a distance of 154 km from south Mumbai towards northeast and 130 km north of Pune. The nearest railhead is Kalyan near Mumbai. To go to Malshej ghat by road from Mumbai, take NH3 to Bhiwandi and turn towards Murbad or take state highway via Kalyan, Murbad, Saralgaon and Vaishakhare to reach the ghat. To go to Malshej ghat from Pune, take NH50 (Pune-Nasik highway), turn left at Narayangaon and pass through Junar. State Transport buses are cheaper and available from Kalyan, Karjat and Pune at regular intervals.

Carry your own food and water not much is available and option are limited to sweet corn on weekdays. You can also visit Naneghat by car its a awesome drive though the roads are bad about 30 kms before Naneghat so hired transport guys don't come you would need your own car or bike to reach there. You can also trek till Naneghat an sign board is easily visible before Malshej starts.

Malshej is a must visit place in rains specially on heavy rainfall days the water cascading of the high hills is a sight. Waterfalls spring up everywhere it is windy and cold so carry a rain jacket if you are shivery types.

MTDC Resort is good cheap place to stay book well in advance other options are there after Malshej Ghat ends which are also ok.
I have always chosen weekday to visit and found it completely empty nowadays cops are patrolling and have setup check nakas at various exits and points to check for liquor carrying tourist etc though they are ineffective and looking for an quick bribe.

Please avoid visiting on weekends many drunk groups come in hired car and create a scene you cant really enjoy the waterfalls if you have women companion you will have to be extra careful.

Malshej ghat, with average height of 700 mts is situated in Pune district near the borders of Thane and Ahmednagar districts.
